Black Bear Coed Tryouts

 

Registration Deadline: April 1, 2024

Location: Waterbury Ice Center

Birth Years: 2008 - 2015

Registration Fee: $20

Returning Black Bears, and players new to the organization, are required to attend tryouts to determine 2024-25 season team placement.

Tryout Schedule:


10U (Birth years 2014 - 2015):

Due to the estimated numbers of 10U players, one morning session will be assigned to each player. Then players will be called back for one of the afternoon sessions. 

  • April 6 - 10:30 - 11:30 AM 
  • April 6 - 11:45 - 12:45 PM 
  • April 6 - 2:15 - 3:15 PM (group TBD)
  • April 6 - 3:30 - 4:30 PM (group TBD)

12U (Birth years 2012 - 2013)

  • April 13, 2024 - 5:30 - 6:45 PM

14U (Birth years 2010 - 2011)

  • April 13, 2024 - 4:00 - 5:15 PM 

16U (Birth years 2008 - 2009)

  • April 13, 2024 - 7:00 - 8:00 PM 

2024-25 Coed Teams

Black Bear Hockey will offer several different tier placements for the upcoming season. Athletes will be anonymously evaluated and recommended for teams based on independent third-party assessment.

 

Top Tier Teams

Offered For: 14U, 12U, and 10U

After tryouts, selected players will be invited to roster with our Top Tier team. Top Tier participants can expect:

  • 3 practices per week beginning in October
  • 35+ games
  • Base tournament budget included - additional tournaments will be paid for by families
  • Regular Travel - Our top tiered teams will play primarily Vermont-based teams, however, some out-of-state travel is anticipated to fill our game schedules.
  • Black Bear Hockey Teams that qualify for a USA Hockey Sectional, Regional or National tournament are required to compete in these events and will require additional costs to families.

Top Tier Teams will begin pre-season in September with 2 skates per week and games are tentatively scheduled to begin mid to late October.

Athletes will have 24 hours to accept their Top Tier spot. Rosters will be announced 72 hours after tryouts are completed. Registration for the upcoming season will be available after rosters are announced and is required within 2 weeks.

 

additional Tiered Teams

Offered For: 14U, 12U and 10U

After tryouts, selected players will be invited to roster with our additional tiered teams. The final tier levels will be based on how our in-state competitors tier their teams. We'll look to align our teams with others in the state for the best competition available. Additional tiered team participants can expect:

  • 2 practices per week beginning in October with an optional collegiate-level skill development session available (additional cost).
  • 30+ regular season games.
  • Base tournaments budget; additional tournaments paid for by families
  • Regular Travel - Our teams will play primarily Vermont-based teams, although occasional out-of-state travel may be possible.
  • Black Bear Hockey Teams that qualify for a USA Hockey Sectional, Regional or National tournament are required to compete in these events and will require additional costs to families.

Additional tiered teams will begin pre-season in September with 1 - 2 skates per week and games beginning late October.

Rosters will be announced 72 hours after tryouts are completed. Athletes will have 24 hours after the announcement to accept their team spot. Registration for the upcoming season will be available after rosters are announced and is required within 2 weeks.

2024-25 SPLIT-SEASON TEAM

Offered For: 16U

Black Bear Hockey is excited to offer a split season coed team for the 2024 - 25 season.

Split season participants can expect:

  • 2 practices per week through November with an optional collegiate-level skill development session available (additional cost).
  • 12-15 games - typically on Sundays
  • 1-2 tournaments (not included in registration fee)
  • Travel within New England

The split-season team will begin in early September and run until late November when High School Hockey begins.
